00:00 Maria Lorena Lehman: How can you use emotion to inspire your architectural design decisions within your projects? I’m Maria Lorena Lehman, Founder of Sensing Architecture. And in this Micro-Lecture, we are going to uncover how you can use emotion to enhance your architectural designs. You see, architecture has the unique ability to tap into occupant emotion, to help them experience their surroundings, each other, and themselves on deeper levels. Now by thinking about what emotion you would like to tap into or evoke within your occupants, you can actually reverse-engineer your design architectural features to actually tap into those emotions.

00:50 MLL: By beginning to think about architecture at this level, you will begin to see that your architecture is actually a fluid journey that your occupants take. And as they experience your architectural environment, they will begin to experience a series of emotions, not just one but a sequence of emotions, that will add up to yield the resulting architectural experience and memory that they will have of your environment. So begin to think about occupant emotions as you design to create and evoke those feelings of surprise, awe, or inspiration within your occupants to hopefully move them at those deeper levels. This is how you innovate and how you expand the human horizon.
