Architect Lens

The Architect Lens interface converges design-fiction with design-science to show design process possibilities where architects can see deep real-time insights about their design as they work within virtual reality.

The Architect Lens interface concept is a futurological exploration of the architectural design process at its earliest stages of development. This interface converges design-fiction with design-science to show design process possibilities where architects can see deep real-time insights about their design as they work within virtual reality. To push the concept even further, the Architect Lens design film also explores having an interface that can run “health scans” to probabilistically predict whether a particular architectural design composition will work successfully from an occupant experiential standpoint. For architects, an intelligent interface that can scan architecture-with-occupant health parameters would make for an invaluable design tool.

DESIGN TAKEAWAYS

This interface concept design, while futurological, takes a step toward envisioning what an intelligent architectural design tool can (and perhaps should) bring. By using this film to spark discussion on the topic, architects may like to ask: What parameters would I want an intelligent architectural design interface to scan? And can such an intelligent interface be used to also scan the architecture-with-occupant health of buildings already built and in-use? While this film is the start of a concept to be developed in the future, it poses critical questions that are important to answer now. It is in doing the latter that architectural designers can best guide emerging technologies to best support an even more beneficial architectural evolution.
